It is now apricot season and so I have been helping my grandmother pick them all in her garden. Another great fruit to go in smoothies and fruit salads! Here are 5 reasons why apricots are good for you.

They are a good source of Nutrients

Apricots are a good source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, potassium and fibre. All of these are important nutrients that your body needs

Apricots help your digestion

I said in the first point that apricots are a good source of fibre. Fibre is a very important nutrient that many people do not get enough of (this is because fibre is removed when foods go through lots of processing). It is needed to help keep your digestive system healthy and working properly. So if you have digestive problems like constipation then apricots may help.

They are good for your eyesight

Apricots contain two substances that have been shown to keep your eyes healthy. These are Vitamin A and Beta Carotene. Having 2-3 servings of apricots a day has been shown to help prevent age related eye degeneration.

They are good for weight loss

Apricots are a good fruit to have if you are on a diet or trying to lose weight. This because they contain lots of fibre, lots of water and are low in calories. One apricot contains only 17 Kcal!

They are good for your heart

Potassium, fibre and Vitamin C (all are found in apricots) have all been shown to help protect you from a number of heart diseases. In particular, potassium has been shown to help lower blood pressure.
