If you have seen some of my recipes you will know that I love garlic (I would use it in every recipe if I could!) Did you know that garlic is one of the healthiest foods as well as being one of the tastiest? The best bit is it only contains about 5 calories per clove. So here are some reasons why you should be using garlic

It is high in Vitamin C, B6 and Manganese!

Manganese is needed for healthy bones, brain function and other processes. Vitamin B6 is needed in many metabolic reactions in the body and Vitamin C is needed for healthy functioning of the immune system.

Garlic can reduce blood pressure!

Studies show that high doses of garlic (about 4 cloves a day) reduce blood pressure. This is important as high blood pressure is one of the biggest causes of heat attacks and strokes.

It can lower cholesterol!

Regular intake of garlic has been linked with a reduction of cholesterol. This is good because high cholesterol levels are also heavily linked with heart disease.

It contains antioxidants!

If you read my article last week you will know how important antioxidants are. Antioxidants have been shown to help fight ageing and related diseases such as cancer.

Garlic helps your immune system!

You already know that garlic contains Vitamin C. But studies have shown it may also fight colds and the flu as well! The studies showed that people who took a daily dose of garlic were ill for 60% less time than people who did not!

I know that garlic is not a very sociable food, but thats ok, if you have a clove of garlic (swallow a whole clove as a pill), we will have no problem! And then you can go crazy with garlic when cooking dinner
