It is now watermelon season and that means Im eating watermelon every day! Watermelon is a great fruit to eat, especially in this hot weather. Here are 5 reasons why you should eat watermelon.

It is high in Citrulline

Citrulline is an amino acid (amino acids are what protein is made from) and in the body it is converted into arginine. Watermelon is the best natural source of citrulline. This is important because arginine is an essential amino acid (your body needs it to survive). Arginine has many uses in the body, such as growth, repair, and being used in the kidneys, lungs and liver.

A good source of Lycopene

Watermelon is also a great source of lycopene which is an important antioxidant (Lycopene gives watermelons their red colour). Lycopene has been linked with a healthy heart and reducing inflammation.

It can help reduce muscle soreness

Muscle soreness after a hard workout is something that many people suffer from. The good news is that there is evidence that eating watermelon or drinking watermelon juice may help reduce this soreness and speed up your recovery.

Lower blood pressure

The citrulline in watermelons can also help reduce blood pressure. Studies have shown that regularly eating watermelon reduced blood pressure in people who suffer from high blood pressure.

It is full of water

Watermelon is 91% water. This means it is an excellent fruit to have on a hot sunny day and keep you refreshed and hydrated.

Though watermelon does have a negative point. If you eat it after a meal it can cause bloating, therefore if you want to avoid it, make sure you eat watermelon on an empty stomach.
